"Grimm's Märchen" (1905)

Illustrated by Heinrich Lefler and Joseph Urban

"Grimm's Märchen" (1905) contains wonderful examples of Jugendstil (the German Art Nouveau movement) illustrations from Lefler and Urban.

The pair's masterful interpretation of fairy tales within "Grimm's Märchen" (1905) is an absolute joy to behold and - as may be expected from

Lefler and Urban - the illustrations are sumptuously decorated with applied gold and silver.

It is believed that the illustrations for "Grimm's Märchen" later formed the basis of another Lefler and Urban rarity, "Märchen Kalender" (1905).

"Grimm's Märchen" (1905) includes the following tales:

• Schneewitchen (Snow White);

• Die Kleine Seejungfrau (The Little Mermaid);

• Aschenbrödel (Cinderella);

• Hänsel und Gretel (Hansel and Gretel);

• Das Gänsemädchen (The Goose Girl);

• Marienkind (Our Lady's Child; or, Mary's Child);

• Schwan kleb'an (Swan, hold on);

• Schneeweisschen und Rosenrot (Snow White and Rose Red);

• Gevatter Tod (The Godfather's Death);

• Der Froschkönig (The Frog Prince);

• Rapunzel; and

• Dornröschen (Little Briar Rose; or, Sleeping Beauty).

approach typical of prestige illustrated publications produced in the early decades of the 20th Century. Each card is

hand-finished and the images are presented on Ivory card stock with an accompanying envelope. The rear of each card

carries information about Lefler and Urban, this wonderful suite and the profiled illustration - we have left the interior of

the cards blank so that you may write your own personal message.
