The Little Green Road to Fairyland (1922)
Illustrated by Ida Rentoul Outhwaite
The Little Green Road to Fairyland is an example of the wonderful outcome of collaboration between Outhwaite and her sister, Annie Rentoul.
Outhwaite prepared a suite of colour and monotone illustrations (including marginalia) to accompany her sister's literary work. That suite of illustrations included 8 colour illustrations and a further 8 major monotone images.
Contemporary reviews for the book were positive as shown below by those from the "Guardian", "The Times" and the "Spectator".
"Guardian"
"She gives some clever pictures in colour ... The volume is handsome and deserves to be in request".
"The Times"
"'The Little Green Road to Fairyland' takes its way behind a little green mossy door. It is an intriguing road and the illustrations will enhance its value to those who read, while Miss Rentoul's Fairy comes very near to the children because she can 'nearly cry' and has a heart to recognise human kindness".
"Spectator"
"One of those Fairy Stories which might bring the thought of the country and green lanes pleasurably before a London child at Christmas. Its effect would be pleasantly soothing, read before bedtime".

When presented on Greeting Cards, these images are prepared as tipped-on plates - in hommage to the hand-crafted approach typical of prestige illustrated publications produced in the early decades of the 20th Century. Each card is hand-finished and the images are presented on Ivory card stock (in the case of colour illustrations) and White card stock (in the case of monotone images) with an accompanying envelope. The rear of each card carries information about Ida Rentoul Outhwaite, this wonderful suite and the profiled illustration - we have left the interior of the cards blank so that you may write your own personal message.
Should you wish to order a reproduction print of one or more of these images, we have provided some options below.
