Like Alice au pays des merveilles that preceded
it, Il était une fois ... vieux contes français was produced in a
wonderful
large format that complements Ségur's images superbly.
In this title, Ségur prepared a suite of colour,
monotone and marginal duotone illustrations to accompany a collection of
classic tales, including: Le Petit Chaperon rouge
(Little Red Riding Hood); Peau d'Ane (Donkey Skin); l'Oiseau Bleu
(The Blue Bird); Cedrillon ou la pantoufle de vair
(Cinderella; or The Slipper of Squirrel Fur); Serpentin-Vert
(The Green Serpent); La Belle au Bois Dormant (Sleeping
Beauty); Le Chat Botté (Puss in Boots); Gracieuse et Percinet
(Graciosa and Percinet); La Chatte Blanche (The White
Cat); La Belle et la Bête (Beauty and the Beast); Le Petit Poucet
(Hop o' My Thumb); Riquet á la Houppe (Riquet with the
Tuft); La Belle aux Cheveux d'Or (Goldilocks; or The
Beauty with Golden Hair); and Les Fées (The Fairies).

When presented on Greeting Cards, these
images are prepared as tipped-in
plates - in homage to the hand-crafted
approach typical
of prestige illustrated publications produced in the early decades
of the 20th Century.
Hand-finishing is used to replicate the
visual appearance of a tipped-in plate and the images are presented
on
Ivory card stock (in the case of colour illustrations) or White
card stock (in the case of monotone illustrations)
with an accompanying envelope. We have left the cards blank so that you may write your own personal
message.
