Duncan Carse Collection
As you make your way through this page, you will have
the opportunity to consider wonderful vintage images
from Duncan Carse that are held in our collection.
The contributions from Duncan Carse are drawn from his illustrations shown on pristine 1st Edition plates for titles
including:
They contain wonderful and powerful images.
As enthusiasts, while preparing these illustrations in
the largest size possible, we appreciate the desirability of replicating
the line, form, colour and finish of these wonderful
images just as they would have appeared to Allen. To that end,
throughout the page that follows, we have shown images optimised for reproduction
in larger formats - usually in a
manner pleasing for 10 x 13" or 10 x 15" framing
options. We consider those formats identified to be the largest
that
allows the accurate reproduction of form, line and colour as prepared by
Carse and originally printed in the
1st Edition plates. To reproduce the images, we have utilised a high definition capture and reproduction technique
and ensure that the prints are displayed with a satin
finish that reproduces the visual appearance of the original plates.
Purchasing one, or more, of
those reproductions is a simple as clicking on the "Add to Cart" buttons and following the prompts
provided for PayPal
purchase.
We have also developed a range of
Giftware that includes
images reproduced on cards, infants'
clothing, T-shirts and
unmatted, matted or framed prints (8x6", 10x8", 12x10", 15x10" and 30 x 20" images sizes). Pricing starts at
US$4 for single
Gift Cards (US$18 for select packs of 6) and 10 x 8" prints (double-matted and framed) begin at US$60. Further

The Artwork of Duncan Carse
Duncan Carse was an English artist and book illustrator
who is associated with the British Fairy School of art. He is believed
to have contributed suites of illustrations to just two
books in his career - both published in 1912: Hans Andersen's Fairy Tales
(published by A & C Black [London]); and
Dewdrops from Fairyland
(published by Frederick Warne & Co [London]).
He died in 1938.

Dewdrios from Fairyland - illustrated by Carse and published
by Frederick Warne & Co (London and New York) in 1912.
Printing was undertaken by Billing
and Sons Ltd (Guildford).
To

navy- and gilt-decorated blue

Dewdrops from Fairyland
is a collection of stories purportedly written by Lucy M
Scott while she was aged between nine and ten.
The short introduction provides
an assurance to that effect from her parents, Major
General Douglas A Scott and May Scott (a delightful
Edwardian-period touch):
These stories were written
by our little daughter Lucy between the
ages of nine and ten.
She has produced them from
time to time, entirely unaided. As the
interest of the book so
much depends upon its authenticity, we have
been asked to five this
assurance to the public.
To the right, we
show the introduction
and assurance
provided by Lucy's parents.

Those stories include: "Silver Wings' Visit to Earth"; "Tiger-Lily
Sprite"; "The Last Bee of Summer"; "The Immortal Baby";
"The Witch and the
Goblin"; "When the Sun and Moon met"; "The First Rose Beetle";
"A Blackberry Tale"; and
"Mrs Nightingale's Evening Party".
Carse has produced a wonderful suite of colour and
monotone illustrations to accompany the tales written by Scott.
