Allen and published by Brentano's Ltd. (London) in 1928.

 

Printing for this Edition was undertaken in Great Britain by

Ebenezer Baylis & Son, Ltd. at The Trinity Press, Worcester.

scarce dust-jacket with applied illustrated plate.

with silver-stamped decoration to the

original light blue cloth.

 

The Silver Birch Tree is an anthology of works from Agnes Hart that includes tales such as: "The Silver Birch

and Miss Merryweahter"; "Lambs' Tails"; "The Rocking Horse"; "The Clever Cockerel"; "The Dreamy Dragon";

"The Strange Shadow"; and "The Cock's Comb".

 

Allen's colour illustrations for The Silver Birch Tree capture the haunting and ethereal qualities of the fairy

realm with a maturity that belies significant artistic development throughout her 20s. Those images remain,

nevertheless, lovely gems.

When presented on Greeting Cards, these images are prepared as tipped-on plates - in hommage to the hand-crafted

approach typical of prestige illustrated publications produced in the early decades of the 20th Century.

 

Hand-finishing is used to replicate the visual appearance of a tipped-on plate and the images are presented on

Ivory card stock (in the case of colour illustrations) or White card stock (in the case of monotone illustrations)

with an accompanying envelope. We have left the cards blank so that you may write your own personal

message.
