To the left, we show a rare copy of the 1st Edition of The Russian Ballet holding the suite of images prepared by René Bull.   This example retains the original unassuming striped red cloth cover - one of the known variant bindings to the 1st Edition.

The Russian Ballet - as published by Constable & Co. Ltd. (London) in 1913 - profiles productions including: "Pétrouchka";

"Thamar"; "Le Carnaval"; "Cléopâtre"; "Les Sylphides"; "Scheherazade"; "Le Spectre de la Rose"; "Narcisse"; "L'Oiseau de Feu";

"La Pavillion d'Armide"; "Prince Igor (Polovtsian Dances)"; "Le Dieu Bleu"; "Prelude à L'Après-Midi d'un Faune"; "Jeux";

"Le Sacre du Printemps"; "La Tragédie de Salome"; and "Le Lac des Cygnes". The Russian Ballet also includes a section

dedicated to Anna Pavlova.

Bull's illustrations - including colour, monotone and marginal designs - are wonderful. As an added bonus of sorts, they

show his own interpretation of scenery and costume designs by artists including: Alexandre Benois ("Pétrouchka",
