The Magic Kiss (1916)
Illustrated by Florence Anderson
To the left, we show an original 1st Edition of The Magic Kiss - as published by Cassell and Company Ltd (London) in 1916.
This example retains the original pictorial cover.
On the right, we show illustrated Title Page for The Magic Kiss. |
The Magic Kiss is thought to be the first publication of a tale by Christine Chaundler (later to be author of Arthur and His
Knights and Lancelot). Specially prepared as a tale for children, it is presented in a wonderful manner as a Picture Story-Book
with a gorgeous suite of colour images by Florence Anderson, in addition to a vast array of her marginal monotone
illustrations.
Chaundler's magical story tells of Pierrot, Page to the Fairy Queen, who carries on an adventure in search of a cure for an
enchantment suffered by the Fairy Princess. Upon his return, he succeeded in curing the Princess where all others had failed
and was made a Prince of the Fairyland.
Our Greeting Cards and Reproduction Prints

approach typical of prestige illustrated publications produced in the early decades of the 20th Century. Each card is
hand-finished and and the images are presented on Ivory card stock with an accompanying envelope. The rear of each
card carries information about Florence Anderson, this wonderful suite and the profiled illustration - we have left the
interior of the cards blank so that you may write your own personal message.
