Squiffer (1924)
Designs by Dugald Stewart Walker
To the left, we show a rare copy of Squiffer as published by Robert M McBride & Company (New York) in 1924.
This copy shows the original decoratively gilt-stamped emerald cloth cover.
On the right, we show Walker's illustrated Title Page. |
Squiffer is a whimsical story by Hal Garrott recounting the adventures of a magical squirrel - Squiffer. The 1st Edition
carrying illustrations by Dugald Walker was published by Robert M McBride & Company (New York) in 1924.
The promotional material provided by the publishers to accompany Squiffer makes interesting reading:
Squiffer is a squirrel whose desire to become a boy sends him upon strange
adventures. The characters of the tale include a Bear, a Candy Princess, the
wicked Red Fairy Hot (with his three quick changes) and ever so many
other delightful persons.
Dugald Walker has again employed his skill as an artist in making a book as
beautiful physically as its text deserves.

When presented on Greeting Cards, these images are prepared as tipped-on plates - in hommage to the hand-crafted
approach typical of prestige illustrated publications produced in the early decades of the 20th Century. Each card is
hand-finished and the images are presented on Ivory card stock (in the case of colour illustrations) or White card stock
(in the case of monotone illustrations) with an accompanying envelope. The rear of each card carries information
about Dugald Walker, this wonderful suite and the profiled illustration - we have left the interior of the cards blank so
that you may write your own personal message.
Should you wish to order a Reproduction Print of one or more of these images, we have provided some options below.
Each of these large format prints is also accompanied by information about Dugald Walker, this suite and the profiled
