In Fairyland - A Series of Pictures from the Elf World (1870) is a showcase of Victorian-era skills - including the illustrations

prepared by Doyle, the incredible colour plates engraved by Edmund Evans and the poetry of William Allingham.

 

Doyle's illustrations are simple gorgeous and are wonderfully displayed following the work of Evans, who, as noted by

Engen (1983), "earned the accolade of producing one of the largest colour printed books of the period - a landmark in the art

of colour printing from wood blocks".

 

The popularity of Doyle's art was confirmed when further editions were published and, later again, Andrew Lang was

commissioned to author The Princess Nobody (1884) specifically to the content of the illustrations - in that case, further

monotone illustrations from Doyle were included in the published suite.

card carries information about Richard Doyle, this wonderful suite and the profiled illustration - we have left the interior

of the cards blank so that you may write your own personal message.

we show an example of how these images can appear when framed.
