Concepts for "Fantasia"

Illustrated by Kay Nielsen

 

 

After emigrating to the United States, Kay Nielsen found work with Disney and contributing significant design work to the

preparation of a number of animation projects. Arguably, his most famous Disney project included his work on the scenes

in Fantasia known as the "Bald Mountain/Ave Maria" sequences.

 

His preparatory work for those sequences is gloriously dark and includes development of the character 'Chernabog' and

other gothic fantasy elements that are extraordinarily powerful.

 

 

Our Greeting Cards and Reproduction Prints

 

 

For connoisseurs of Nielsen's work, we have prepared sets of 8 Greeting Cards displaying a selection of his concept designs for the character 'Chernabog' and on the left, we show an example of how these Greeting Cards appear.

When presented on Greeting Cards, these images are prepared as tipped-on plates - in hommage to the hand-crafted

approach typical of prestige illustrated publications produced in the early decades of the 20th Century. Each card is

hand-finished and the images are presented on Ivory card stock with an accompanying envelope. The rear of each card

carries information about Kay Nielsen, this wonderful suite and the profiled illustration - we have left the interior of the

cards blank so that you may write your own personal message.
