Prince Igor

In this powerful illustration, Bilibin shows a design for the character of Prince Igor (to be used in the Russian Opera of

the same name). The Opera, composed by Aleksandr Borodin, is an adaptation from the Slavic epic, 'The Lay of Igor's

Host', which recounts the campaign of Prince Igor Svyatoslavich against the invading Polovtsian tribes in 1185.
