of the 1953 edition of Histoire d'un Casse-Noisette
with
illustrations by Adrienne Ségur - published by Ernest Flammarion
(Paris).
This example retains the
original white-stamped brown board cover.

For Histoire d'un Casse-Noisette, Ségur had the
opportunity to interpret Hoffmann's classic tale - as it had been adapted
by one of France's most famous 19th Century writers,
Alexandre Dumas.
Her suite of illustrations, on this occasion, included
major colour and monotone images, in addition to minor
monotone images. Once more, as with Alice au pays
des merveilles and Il était une fois ... vieux contes français, Ségur's
art was reproduced in an unusual, but wonderful, large
format that is an absolute joy to behold.

When presented on Greeting Cards, these
images are prepared as tipped-in
plates - in homage to the hand-crafted
approach typical
of prestige illustrated publications produced in the early decades
of the 20th Century.
Hand-finishing is used to replicate the
visual appearance of a tipped-in plate and the images are presented
on
Ivory card stock (in the case of colour illustrations) or White
card stock (in the case of monotone illustrations)
with an accompanying envelope. We have left the cards blank so that you may write your own personal
message.
