This copy retains the original gold- and blue-stamped decorated navy cloth cover.
On the right, we show the Title Page to this Edition of Idylls of the King. |
Idylls of the King is a cycle of 12 narrative poems by the English Poet Laureate, Lord Tennyson, that retells the legendary
rise and fall of King Arthur and his Kingdom. In the variant interpreted illustratively by Fortescue-Brickdale, the tale is
arranged in the form first published in 1859, including the poems "Enid", "Vivien", "Elaine" and "Guinevere".
The illustrations contributed by Fortescue-Brickdale to the version published in 1912 are decorated in wonderful fashion,
as would be expected given her Pre-Raphaelite influences and the themes explored by Tennyson.
